I began my artistic career as a documentary photographer. My work was included in Time Magazine, Rolling Stone, People Magazine and more. From there I focused on event photography, transitioning into videography and then filmmaking.
Influenced by the home movies I grew up watching, I'm now a full time filmmaker who uses 8mm home movies to create short, inspirational films about life, love, and all things human and divine. I then create a talk from some of these films. Please visit my YouTube channel @MovingWordFilms to view my films.
As a speaker, I use these home movies to convey a nostalgic feeling to my talks. Whether my audience is a high school assembly, having grown up with iPhones and videos, or an older audience who remembers the sound of a projector starting up once the lights were out, the visual nostalgia of this technique creates a unique emotional element.
My current talk, "What If We Can't Get This Wrong?" can be shortened to a 10 minute TEDx talk, or lengthened to a 60 minute keynote talk. I customize it to fit your audience, while keeping the introspective focus on the suggestion that we are all in a "collective home movie" together, right on time for our lives, just as we are - and beyond that, the message that we all matter, just as we are.
Using a pandemic film project entitled, "Behind the Mask", I combine this message with the exploration of who we are behind our invisible masks, inviting the audience to consider that behind our thoughts and emotions, opinions and beliefs, we're not that different from each other, here in the collective home movie of what it is to be human.
