A Picture of Your Heart - Pictures That Move - LA Photographers
Since moving to LA, I've thought a lot about how I want to market myself here as a wedding, portrait and event photographer. I knew before unpacking my first box that I would be one of a gazillion other talented photographers here. (Dear Lord there are some amazing creatives out here.) But it's invited me to do some soul searching to find what it is, I feel, that makes me different.
My first intuitive answer? There is room for ALL of us! We're ALL here with individual gifts, and there is no limit to what we can contribute to the tapestry! We're ALL needed, and we ALL have a place. All hands (and hearts) on deck!
My second intuitive answer? I think I have a way of showing the heartbeat of an event. Trust me, I'm along for the ride. I'm just the one holding the camera. But it's where I always find myself. Right smack in the middle of a moment. Perhaps it's because I was blessed with a large family who really loves each other and still takes every opportunity to celebrate who we are together. Because of them, I know the heart of a family well. Very well. Gratefully, no one feels like a stranger to me. But mostly, I think it's just where my Beloved Creator wants me. I'm just Her camera, and so honored to be, there are no words. Hopefully you see it on the faces in the frames ...
Now that I'm combining stills with video in my Pictures That Move signature technique, I see that it really IS the heart that I'm filming, and nothing less. Including video in this unusual hybrid format is like an MRI of the heart, beyond an X-ray of a still image.
Case in point ...
Over the holidays, I got a request from a new client who wanted to gift her boyfriend a photo session of his grandchildren. These families all lived in different parts of the country, and usually only saw each other at Christmas. THIS year, she decided to get photos of the reunion of little cousins, intended as a surprise gift of a quickly printed photo wrapped in a frame under the tree. When I arrived and understood the circumstances, I knew that this was an opportunity that called for a Pictures That Move video. (I just love the way the video shows the interaction between the cousins, beyond the "posed" photos.) Can you imagine seeing this on the big screen, as an "OPEN THIS!!" gift under the tree"? Oh, my heart ...
Oh, YOUR heart!
Strongest organ there is ... Maybe that's why it always shows up in my viewfinder.
Blessings to you all in this New Year. May wonderful twists and turns take you by surprise - and may we all know that we're safe in the arms of love, only and always. I'm so very grateful to be in this Sacred dream with you.
